Crust Music

27/10/08

Crust punk, or Crust, or crusty punk is one of the evolutions of Anarch punk and hardcore punk music.  Crust is normally chaotic distorted music with fast metal like guitar riffs, loud screachy or noisy vocals and tend to be very short and very fast songs ranging from only a few seconds, but never longer then 2 minutes.

The style, which evolved in the mid-1980s in the UK, often had songs with dark, pessimistic lyrics, lingering on political and social issues.  Crust became very popular in the Minneapolis scene where some of the best known curst bands populated many of the Minneaplis squats and low income areas.  Phili and Berkley also had many great bands who made their mark on the crust scene.

These days crust popularity has dropped with very few active bands playing or touring.  The peak of crust music was in 1995 and has felt a steady decline since then.
